Filtrabox Fume Extractors

Filtrabox Fume Extractors by PAT Technology Systems, Inc. are high-efficiency filters designed to capture laser fumes generated during the laser engraving, cutting, and marking process. Once the laser fumes are captured, Filtrabox recirculates purified, clean air back into the work space, improving indoor air quality and operator safety.

Description

Filtrabox has designed a line of fume extractors specifically for Epilog Laser Engravers. Constructed with a three-stage, high-efficiency filter arrangement, each fume extractor captures the respirable dust and volatile compounds (VOCs) created when engraving, cutting, and marking with your laser.

Is your laser sending you smoke signals?

As you run your laser engraver, you may notice smoke created during the process. This smoke is known as laser fumes, and is made up from two components: respirable dust and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

What is Respirable Dust?

If you run a laser engraver/cutter, you have respirable dust.

Respirable dust measures 2.5 microns and less in diameter (smaller than pollen, mold spores, or dust mite allergens). The small diameter of the dust particles can penetrate deep into your lungs, causing increased health risks and lung damage.

In order to capture these small particles of dust, Filtrabox uses high-performance HEPA filters. These HEPA filters have an impressive tested efficiency of 99.999% at 0.3 microns. This means that it removes 99.999% of the most aerodynamically penetrating particles, known to be 0.3 microns. Smaller and larger particles are even more effectively captured, resulting in extremely clean air, free of respirable dust.

What are Volatile Organic Compounds / VOCs?

When you run your laser, along with respirable dust, gaseous contaminants are also produced. These are called Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs. Sustained exposure to high concentrations of VOCs are a health risk, and can result in respiratory irritation, as well as other health concerns.

Most VOC molecules will physically bond to activated carbon. When the VOCs bond to the microscopic pores in the activated carbon, this is called adsorption. The VOCs that do not bond with carbon require chemical treatments to deactivate them.

Filtrabox manufacturers their filters by blending high-performance activated carbon adsorption media with a potassium permanganate chemical treatment that offers the broadest range of VOC protection available.

Breathe easier

The best line of defense to protect the air quality of your workspace is high-quality, high-performance filters that effectively remove the laser fumes from the air. By adding Filtrabox fume extractors to your laser engraving and cutting set-up, you will remove 99.999% of the most aerodynamically penetrating dust particles and VOCs, resulting in cleaner, safer air quality.
